Andrew Holness kept his promise and give farmer a donkey

On July 16, Prime Minister Andrew Holness posted a video on his social media of a farmer asking for assistance in getting a donkey. The farmer from St. Elizabeth approached Prime Minister Andrew Holness and asked if he could assist her in getting a donkey. She said one of her children has Down syndrome and she need the animal to transport her goods to the market.

Holness commended the woman’s bravery for asking for assistance. He also stated he understand the vital role farmers play in the economy,, “In response to her plea, I am pleased to announce that both myself and the Member of Parliament are committed to making this request a reality. We understand the vital role that farmers play in our economy, and we are determined to provide the necessary support to enhance their livelihoods”, he said.

Holness said he and both the Member of Parliament for the constituency were committed in making this request a reality. On Friday 21, five days later, the farmer who is now identify as Dionne, received the donkey. The donkey was presented to her by Member of Parliament, Floyd Green, who also suprised her with other farming equipment.

Holness wrote, her “passion for farming and dedication to her family is truly awe-inspiring. When Dionne approached me a week ago, requesting a donkey to assist her in transporting her farm goods, I couldn’t help but be amazed by her drive to overcome challenges and boost our agricultural sector.
We understand the importance of supporting our farmers, as they are the backbone of our economy. Therefore, in addition to providing her with a donkey, we also equipped her with a hamper, saddle, spray pan and chicken plucker— modern tools that will enhance efficiency and productivity on her farm.”

Green posted on his Twitter page, “Dione is such a hardworking and genuine soul, really happy we could help.”
