Clock Ticking: September 30 Cut-Off Looms for Jamaica’s Next Voters’ List

Jamaicans who are eligible to vote but have not yet registered have until September 30, 2026, if they want to be considered for inclusion on the next voters’ list, which will be published on November 30.

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) is urging eligible individuals to get registered before the cut-off rather than wait until later in the year.

Registration is open to Jamaican citizens aged 18 and over, as well as qualifying Commonwealth citizens who have lived continuously in Jamaica for at least 12 months.

The process is free and begins at an Electoral Office of Jamaica constituency office. Applicants will have their photograph and fingerprints taken and provide the information necessary to establish their identity and place of residence.

The process does not end at the constituency office. Electoral officials will subsequently visit the address supplied by the applicant to confirm that the individual resides there before the application is finalised.

Jamaica operates a continuous voter-registration system, so persons can still apply after September 30. However, those registering after the deadline will have to wait for a later voters’ list rather than the one being published on November 30.

The ECJ publishes an updated voters’ list twice each year, on May 31 and November 30.

Already registered? There is no need to apply again. Electors whose names are already on the list but who have not collected their voter identification cards are being encouraged to pick them up.

For those who are eligible but still unregistered, the message is simple: if you want to make the November voters’ list, get registered by September 30.
