Quarantine Bill For Jamaican Arrivals US$100 per day

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Sen. Kamina Johnson Smith, mandatory quarantine for Jamaican arrivals are not free to taxpayers.

Johnson Smith said it comes at a negotiated cost of US$100 per day including the accommodation and 3 meals per day, per person.

The government reported it was negotiating with some hotels to use for quarantine locations .

The State are asking arrivals to make a contribution of US$20 per day, 1/5 of the actual cost or to make personal family arrangements in respect of meals. She went on the say, in recognition of the particular challenges for this week arrivals and what they have been through in the past two months, the cabinet agrees that the government will absorb all the cost.

Ms. Johnson Smith explained that the total cost to taxpayers will be approximately 64 million dollars.
