“I PAID POPSY $300,000 EACH TIME!” — RT Boss’ Explosive Social Media Claim Sparks Defamation Warning

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA — Social media is once again on fire after an explosive post attributed to RT Boss made highly personal allegations involving popular social-media personality Pops YG, triggering a legal response and the possibility of a defamation battle.

In the screenshot circulating online, an account bearing RT Boss’ name makes what it describes as a “confession,” alleging that he had an intimate relationship with “Popsy” on five occasions and paid him $300,000 each time. The post further alleges that the relationship had ended and claims that “Popsy” was upset and attempting to “set me up.”

Those are RT Boss’ allegations as presented in the circulating screenshot. Jamaica Live has not independently verified the claims, and the screenshot by itself does not establish that the allegations are true.

The extraordinary claims quickly attracted attention online, but the situation has now moved beyond social-media gossip.

Montego Bay attorney Donnovan Collins has publicly addressed the controversy on behalf of Pops YG, indicating that his client is taking the statements seriously and considering his legal options over what Collins describes as defamatory attacks on Pops YG’s character.

The attorney’s intervention raises the stakes considerably. What may have begun as a social-media feud could potentially become a legal dispute over reputation, publication and the boundaries of what people can say about others online.

Pops YG’s position, according to the legal statement, is that the allegations being circulated about him are false, and he denies them.

The controversy also highlights an increasingly important reality of the TikTok era: posting something to social media does not automatically shield a person from potential legal consequences. Allegations concerning someone’s sexual conduct, criminality, professional behaviour or personal character can have serious reputational consequences, particularly when presented publicly as statements of fact.

And sharing the allegation is not the same thing as proving it.

At this stage, Jamaica Live has seen no independently verified evidence establishing the truth of RT Boss’ allegations, nor has a court determined that the allegations are true or defamatory. Any legal claim would ultimately have to be assessed according to the evidence and applicable Jamaican law.
