Kingston, Jamaica – August 21, 2025 – The Rockfort Mineral Bath, a cherished landmark of Kingston’s heritage and wellness tourism, has officially reopened following extensive renovations under a public-private partnership.

At Thursday’s re-opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia “Babsy” Grange, declared the moment a proud achievement for her Ministry.
“We have delivered,” Minister Grange said, noting that reopening the Rockfort Mineral Bath was one of her priority targets for 2025.

The revitalization follows the 2024 signing of a 25-year lease agreement between the Jamaica National Heritage Trust and Carib Cement for the upgrade, management, and operation of the site.

Carib Cement’s Investment

Carib Cement Managing Director Jorge Martinez revealed that the company has already spent J$16 million in major upgrades during phase one of the project, nearly triple the initial budget.
He explained that natural disasters—including Hurricane Beryl, Tropical Storm Rafael, and an unusually heavy rainy season—forced additional investments to repair damages.

Under the agreement, Carib Cement will invest J$57 million over the next five years to restore and modernize the facility while preserving its cultural and historical value.

Healing Waters and Cultural Revival

Rockfort Mineral Bath, recognized as a national monument, has long been celebrated for its healing properties and therapeutic waters. With the reopening, Minister Grange expressed her vision of restoring the tradition of families and communities gathering at the Bath.

“I see families coming again to this location as they did so many years ago before the facility was closed… I can feel the spirit of communities as they come from near and far to experience the magical feeling of a mineral bath,” she said.

The Minister emphasized that Rockfort Mineral Bath would now be integrated into Kingston’s growing culture, heritage, entertainment, and tourism circuit, boosting efforts to attract more visitors to the capital.

Access and Rates

Carib Cement announced affordable entry rates for Jamaicans and visitors:

  • Children (ages 4–12): J$500
  • Seniors (55+): J$500
  • Adults: J$700

A Symbol of Renewal

For many Jamaicans, Rockfort Mineral Bath represents not only wellness but also a place of history and community spirit. Its reopening is being hailed as a symbol of cultural renewal—an effort to preserve heritage while unlocking new opportunities for tourism and local recreation.

As the Mineral Bath once again welcomes families, visitors, and health seekers, the Kingston coastline gains back one of its most treasured gems.
