New York City Mayor Eric Adams called the chase on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reckless and irresponsible

The New York City Major Eric Adams had a Press Conference on the near fatal accident with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Adams stated that he understands the press or paparazzi, want to get the right shot, they want to get the right story. But public safety must always be at the forefront. In a briefing, he said, he was told, two of his officers could have been injured… I don’t think there’s many of us who don’t recall how (Harry’s) mum died.
It would be horrific to lose the innocent bystander during a chase like this and something to have happened to them as well.”

Mr. Adams added, that, he believes the behaviour of those following the Sussexes was “reckless and irresponsible”. The NYPD confirmed the incident and said “they assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging.”

The occurrence began Tuesday evening at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Midtown, where Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and her mother, Doria Ragland were attending the Women of Vision awards, where Meghan was among the honorees. Shortly after leaving the event, they were pursued by about six coordinated chasing cars.

The chase went on for about two hours, whereby the paparazzi were driving on sidewalks and side streets putting pedestrian and people at risk. The Sussex’s ended up changing cars into a NYC yellow cab to evade the paparazzi but that did not help. At one point you can see the security of Meghan and Harry stopped in the middle of the street asking the paparazzi to stop chasing. They ended up going to the police station where the episode came to an end.
