Kingston, Jamaica — Days after being charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, former People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker-turned-Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) member Lawrence Rowe is raising alarm, declaring that his life is in danger due to sensitive information he possesses about high-ranking PNP figures.

In a tense interview with Nationwide News, Rowe claimed he is “marked for death” and is urgently calling on the Commissioner of Police to implement protective measures.

According to Rowe, he has credible intelligence that at least three members of the PNP are allegedly misusing public funds from the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) to finance political campaigns — a practice that is illegal under Jamaican law and carries serious penalties.

Rowe also leveled a disturbing accusation against a senior member of the PNP, whom he claims presents himself publicly as morally upright but allegedly had inappropriate relations with an underage girl. He further alleged that the same individual orchestrated an intimidation campaign to silence the girl and those close to her, reportedly hiring individuals to harass them into silence.

Legal Troubles Mount

The 37-year-old former PNP caretaker was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm on July 18, 2025, after allegedly pushing a woman to the ground, injuring her right knee. Superintendent Beresford Williams, head of the Kingston Central Police Division, confirmed the charge. Rowe is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on August 31.

This latest charge comes just over a month after another incident involving Rowe. On June 2, he was charged with assault at common law following a viral video that captured him brandishing a knife during a heated confrontation with a man. That case also led to a police report and Rowe being granted station bail.

Political Fallout

Rowe’s dramatic fallout with the PNP occurred after he was removed as the party’s representative for Kingston Central and replaced by retired police officer Steve McGregor. Shortly after, Rowe defected to the Jamaica Labour Party and has since been active on their political platform.

Rowe insists that his recent legal troubles and threats to his safety are part of a broader political conspiracy intended to silence him.

“I am not afraid to tell the truth, but I need protection,” Rowe said, warning that Jamaica’s democracy is under threat when whistleblowers are intimidated or attacked.

No Official Response Yet

As of publication, the People’s National Party has not issued an official statement addressing Rowe’s explosive allegations. The Jamaica Constabulary Force also has not confirmed any investigation into the claims of KSAMC fund misuse or the alleged sexual misconduct and intimidation involving a senior PNP figure.

Rowe had been making the Headlines
According to news reports from January 2025, former People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker Lawrence Rowe alleged that he was offered a substantial sum of money ($15 million in resources) along with a seat in the Senate and an appointment to a government board if he would quietly step down from his position as caretaker for Central Kingston. He claimed these offers were part of a negotiation to replace him with another candidate.

The PNP, in response, described these claims as spurious and stated that they contradict the party’s policies and practices. The PNP indicated that the matter would be addressed at a time convenient to the party. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) criticized the PNP’s response, labeling it unacceptable and an insult to the Jamaican people, demanding transparency regarding the allegations. The National Integrity Action (NIA) called for anyone with proof of Rowe’s claims to submit it to the Integrity Commission, highlighting concerns about potential implications for public trust and governance.

The situation has cast a shadow over the political landscape, raising serious concerns about corruption, abuse of power, and the safety of individuals who speak out.
