Dr. Tufton Announces Groundbreaking of $642M Outpatient Department at May Pen Hospital

May Pen, Clarendon – Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, has officially announced the groundbreaking of a new $642 million Outpatient Department (OPD) at May Pen Hospital, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s efforts to modernize Jamaica’s healthcare infrastructure.

The project, undertaken through the Health Systems Strengthening Programme (HSSP), is expected to serve more than 2,500 patients monthly and will significantly improve outpatient care in the region.

The new OPD will include:

  • General Consultations
  • Specialist Clinics
  • Cardiology Testing
  • Laboratory Services
  • Minor Procedures and Immediate Care

Dr. Tufton emphasized that the project is aimed at improving patient flow, delivering better care, and providing a more comfortable space for both patients and staff. “This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across Jamaica,” he said.

Construction has officially commenced, and the facility is expected to play a pivotal role in expanding access to quality healthcare services in Clarendon and surrounding communities.
