Police said Gia Griniell, a bright and spirited child, tragically died from a gunshot wound to the back of her head, sustained during a shooting incident at Ingleside Boulevard on that fateful evening.

A police report indicated that around 10:00 pm, the young child, her 12-year-old sibling, and their loving mother were at home, engaged in their usual nightly routine, when the shocking shooting occurred. In moments of chaos and fear, the child suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the head and was swiftly rushed to the hospital, where, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, she was pronounced dead, leaving her family and the entire community in deep grief and disbelief.

The 38-year-old female individual has been formally charged with child negligence and a breach of duty concerning the secure storage of a firearm and associated ammunition. These charges were brought forth on Monday evening following her interrogation by detectives. The accused has been granted station bail, and the date for her court appearance is currently being finalized.
