Three-Year-Old Zaylon Pinnock Killed in Denham Town Gun Attack — Grieving Mother Vows to Help Police Find His Killers

Grief has gripped the community of Denham Town after three-year-old Zaylon Pinnock was shot and killed during a brazen gun attack at his home on Nelson Street early Saturday morning.

The toddler’s mother, overcome with emotion, wept openly as she vowed to support investigators in their efforts to bring justice for her son. Her heartbreak has echoed across the community, as residents struggle to come to terms with yet another innocent life lost to gun violence.

According to the police, Zaylon was at home with his father and another child when gunmen opened fire on the premises. The attack has been linked to what investigators describe as a resurgence of gang activity in the area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Michael Phipps, who is in charge of the Area 4 Police Division, confirmed that two persons of interest have been identified in connection with the killing. They are known only by the aliases “Juby” and “Romy,” and are believed to be affiliated with the Scream Corner gang. Both men are being urged to report to the Denham Town Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) within 24 hours.

ACP Phipps said preliminary investigations suggest the attack stems from renewed gang rivalry in the Denham Town community.

“We are at the preliminary stages of our investigations into this shooting incident which resulted in the death of this three-year-old. We are theorising based on our preliminary information that this particular incident is stemming from what we want to refer to at this time as a resurgence of some gang activities within the Denham Town community,” he stated.

He added that turf wars remain at the centre of the conflict, noting that while Denham Town had been relatively quiet due to sustained police intervention efforts, tensions appear to have reignited.

The community is currently under curfew, which was established by the Joint Commanders since Thursday. ACP Phipps said the police will intensify operational responses as they work to stabilise the area and restore peace.

“We will be going into the community to do a number of operational responses… We do know that our early information is suggesting gang rivalry for the control of turf,” he explained.

For residents of Denham Town, however, the statistics and police briefings cannot soften the pain of a child’s life cut short. Three-year-old Zaylon Pinnock should have been worrying about toys and cartoons — not caught in the crossfire of men fighting for territory.

As his mother mourns, Jamaica is once again forced to confront a painful question: how many more innocent children must be buried before the cycle of gang violence is truly broken?

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Denham Town CIB as investigations continue.
