Prime Minister Andrew Holness is not done cutting ribbons just yet. The Prime Minister recently handed over two new homes under the Government’s New Social Housing Programme (NSHP) — bringing renewed hope to two deserving Jamaicans.

The beneficiaries are Mr. Neville Barrett, a 75-year-old farmer from South West St Ann, and Ms. Joycelyn Clark of Brandon Hill District. Both individuals had been living in poor conditions for many years, and their brand-new homes now offer comfort, dignity, and security in their later years.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Holness reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to uplifting vulnerable citizens through the NSHP, which has been transforming lives across the island. He emphasized that the programme is not just about constructing houses, but about restoring hope, stability, and opportunity for families who have long struggled.

“This programme is about giving people a fair chance — a foundation to build a better life,” Holness said. “Every home we hand over represents a life changed, a family uplifted, and a community strengthened.”

Since its inception, the New Social Housing Programme has delivered hundreds of homes islandwide, targeting the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income families in need of safe, secure shelter.

Prime Minister Holness also revealed that the government is exploring innovative ways to expand the programme’s reach, including the use of prefabricated housing solutions to speed up construction and reduce costs.

So far, 304 units have been completed, 86 are currently under construction, and another 65 units are set to begin later this year.

Under the terms of the Social Housing Agreement, homeowners must commit to maintaining the homes in good condition, refrain from renting them out, secure legal electricity connections, and seek professional advice before adding to the structure.

The NSHP continues to stand as a beacon of compassion and progress — a tangible reflection of the government’s pledge to build a Jamaica where every citizen has a safe place to call home.
