The Government of Jamaica has announced a major step in its mission to reclaim communities from the grip of crime and violence, with a $2.2 billion investment in Spanish Town to construct a modern, state-of-the-art security facility.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening public safety, emphasizing that security and stability in St. Catherine remain a top priority. Spanish Town, he noted, is a parish with tremendous potential for growth and economic activity, but one that has long been plagued by organized criminal networks and gang-related violence.

“This project is about reclaiming our space from gangs, restoring peace, and giving families the freedom to live without fear,” said Prime Minister Holness.

A Modern Hub for Security and Community Policing

The new St. Catherine North Police Divisional Headquarters represents a critical part of the Government’s broader national security modernization strategy. The facility will accommodate nearly 300 police officers and serve as a command center for strategic operations, administration, and community policing.

When completed, the facility will not only boost the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) ability to maintain law and order, but also strengthen relationships between police and citizens. The Prime Minister emphasized that this development marks a shift toward community-oriented policing, where the police are seen not as an institution of fear, but one of service, protection, and partnership.

Building for Peace, Growth, and Confidence

According to Dr. Holness, the Government’s approach to crime prevention goes beyond arrests and enforcement—it’s about rebuilding trust and creating an environment where residents can live, work, and raise families without fear.

“This new Divisional Headquarters will serve as both a security guarantee and a catalyst for further investment and development in St. Catherine North,” he said.

The Prime Minister also extended gratitude to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Ministry of National Security, contractors, and all stakeholders for their dedication and collaboration in making the project a reality.

As Jamaica continues to modernize its national security infrastructure, projects like the Spanish Town Divisional Headquarters reflect a broader vision: a safer Jamaica where communities thrive and the rule of law prevails.
