Enraged Medvedev Smashes Racket to Pieces In An Epic US Open Meltdown
New York, August 25, 2025 — Daniil Medvedev, the hot-headed former US Open champ, totally lost it after a wild first-round loss to Benjamin Bonzi, turning Arthur Ashe Stadium into complete mayhem.
Things went off the rails at the US Open on Sunday when a photographer strutted onto the court right as Medvedev hit match point, bringing the match to a screeching halt and setting off a major meltdown from the Russian star. Medvedev ended up getting eliminated 6-3 7-5 6-7(5) 0-6 6-4 by Frenchman Bonzi, who even thought about walking off the court and wanted Medvedev disqualified.

While serving for the match at 6-3 7-5 5-4, Bonzi was geared up for his second serve when the photographer decided to crash the scene.
The drama erupted at match point in the third set when a photographer stormed onto the court, disrupting play. Instead of staying composed, Medvedev flew into a rage, tearing into Chair Umpire Greg Allensworth with venomous words. “Are you a man? Why are you shaking?” he barked, before whipping the New York crowd into a frenzy with taunts and sarcastic remarks.
Medvedev smashed his racket violently into the ground multiple times, splintering it in a fit of enraged fury.
The match descended into a six-minute standoff of boos, whistles, and shouting.
Medvedev’s temper overshadowed his tennis as he kept berating the umpire, accusing officials of bias and even referencing old feuds with other players.
Though he clawed back to win the third set in a tiebreak and humiliated Bonzi 6-0 in the fourth, Medvedev’s fire turned to ashes in the final set as Bonzi sealed the biggest win of his career, 6-4. That’s when the Russian completely lost control. He sat down, seething, and smashed his racket repeatedly until it was nothing but twisted metal and shattered graphite.
The U.S. Tennis Association quickly revoked the photographer’s credentials, but all eyes remain on Medvedev, who admitted he now expects a massive fine for his violent display.
For fans, this was no champion’s exit—it was a bitter tantrum from a man consumed by rage.
