BRONX, NEW YORK — A Jamaican woman who is said to be a former employee at the Jamaica Gleaner was tragically stabbed to death in her apartment in Wakefield, Bronx, on Saturday night, in what authorities are investigating as a case of domestic violence.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Tamara Rowe, a mother of two who previously worked with The Gleaner in Jamaica before migrating to the United States. Her untimely death has left both her Bronx community and her former colleagues in Jamaica in mourning.

According to CBS New York, police sources said Rowe knew her attacker. The fatal incident occurred at her residence at 667 East 232nd Street, a neighborhood home to a large Caribbean population, including many Jamaicans.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows a man fleeing the scene via the building’s stairwell. NYPD officers were seen combing the area for evidence throughout Sunday, and the investigation is ongoing.

Friends and family describe Rowe as a kind-hearted, ambitious woman who cherished her Jamaican heritage and loved her children deeply. “Tamara was vibrant, full of life, and always wore a smile. She was proud of her roots and proud of her work,” said one former colleague at The Gleaner. “This is a heartbreaking loss.”

Community leaders in the Bronx are also calling for more resources to support immigrant women facing domestic abuse, noting that many often suffer in silence due to cultural stigma or immigration concerns.

Rowe’s children are currently being cared for by family members. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
