New Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade building donated by China

Prime Minister Andrew Holness toured the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) headquarters in Kingston. The building was a donation from the People’s Republic of China.

The opening of the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) headquarters signals the launch of Jamaica’s and the Ministry’s 60th Anniversary celebration this year.

The building will be one of the first cabinet designations in independent Jamaica, the MFAFT now has a permanent edifice to house its operations. The construction of these facilities is critical to fully establishing a Government that can perform more productively and efficiently in service of the Jamaican people.

It is dedicated to Hugh Lawson Shearer ON OJ PC who served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Jamaica from 1967 to 1972. Shearer was a member of Andrew Holness’ Jamaica Labour Party

The Prime Minister said he is confident that the Ministry’s staff will feel at home in this new building, their work will be more easily accomplished and the public will benefit as a result.
Once again, many thanks to our friends, the People’s Republic of China whose donation assisted the Government in realising this vision, he said
