Man who assaulted nurse identified as businessman Robert Bell

NEWS UPDATE: Police in St Andrew have formally charged 65-year-old businessman Robert Bell, also known as ‘Andy Bell,’ of Grosvenor Terrace, St Andrew, with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm following an incident involving a nurse on Mt Friendship Road in the parish on Tuesday, May 13.

According to reports from the Stony Hill Police, at approximately 7:15 pm, Bell, the driver of a Mercedes-Benz motor vehicle positioned ahead of a woman’s Toyota Vitz, suddenly halted and began to swerve across the roadway. Bell, who the police say spat in the face of the woman during the incident, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The police report indicates that the woman exited her vehicle to assess any potential damage when she allegedly observed Bell brandishing a handgun. He then forcefully threw her to the ground and subjected her to physical assault, resulting in significant swelling and bruising across her body. A date is to be set for him to appear in court. The incident happened on Tuesday night along Mount Friendship Road in St Andrew.

The police are currently conducting an investigation into viral video that show a female nurse being assaulted by a man on a roadside. Details regarding the location and the events leading up to the incident remain unclear; however, unverified reports suggest that the assault may be linked to road rage.

Despite the severity of the situation, passerby seem hesitant to intervene or attempted to stop him from inflicting harm on the woman, due to what some assumed to be a gun in his hand.

Nevertheless, a voice can be heard stating, “You can’t do the woman like that.”

A Jamaica Gleaner update stated that he was taken into police custody while a thorough investigation has commenced concerning a road rage incident, both of whom were driving on the Mount Airy main road in St Andrew on Tuesday. A senior officer has confirmed this incident, emphasizing that the man remains detained as the investigation unfolds.

In the video, a man is observed aggressively handling a woman dressed in what seems to be a nurse’s uniform.

“He took her out [of the] car and him start manhandle her,” a person with knowledge of the incident told The Gleaner, adding that the nurse was on her way to work.

He held an item that appeared to be a firearm, which subsequently dropped onto the roadway. An eyewitness reported that an individual retrieved the object and returned it to the suspect. Additionally, the video captures bystanders imploring the man to stop assaulting the nurse.
