Brooklyn tun up! Thousands of music lovers flooded Wingate Park on Saturday, July 19, for the ultimate Caribbean summer bash—Rise Up NYC’s Dancehall and Soca Takeover—and trust wi, it was straight vibes from start to finish!

With the motto “Unity, Freedom, and Respect,” this free concert series brought the heart and soul of the Caribbean to the Big Apple, and the people came out in full force—flags waving, waistlines moving, and spirits soaring. And the King himself, Beenie Man, made sure it was a night to remember.
In a viral Instagram post, the Dancehall icon shared a video of the massive crowd, joking that the sea of fans stretched “from Brooklyn to Queens.” The love was real.

Headlining this unforgettable evening is the ‘King of Dancehall’ himself — Beenie Man — who’ll light up the stage with timeless hits like Who Am I (Sim Simma) and King of the Dancehall,” the show’s producers proudly announced before the event.

And light it up he did.

But Beenie wasn’t the only one shelling the stage. Patrice Roberts brought pure bacchanal energy with her infectious soca anthems like Mind My Business and Into You, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Add explosive sets from Full Blown, Preedy, and the iconic Massive B duo Bobby Konders and Jabba, and you had a full Caribbean carnival right in the heart of Brooklyn.

The Rise Up NYC series isn’t just about music — it’s about community. Hosted across all five boroughs, the free concert series is a summertime lifeline for New Yorkers feeling the pinch of high costs, offering high-quality entertainment without a high price tag.

“At a time when many people are still struggling with rising costs, Rise Up NYC provides a safe space for New Yorkers to enjoy the music they love—without paying anything extra,” organizers said. “It’s also a chance to explore the boroughs and deepen our ties to this city we all call home.”

From dancehall legends to soca queens, from Brooklyn’s heart to the Caribbean soul, Rise Up NYC was more than a concert—it was a cultural takeover.

Despite Reggae Sumfest and Downsound boss Joe Bogdanovich recently crowning Vybz Kartel as the “King of Dancehall,” Beenie Man is making it crystal clear— titles may trend, but legends never fade.

From tearing down stages across the globe to commanding thousands at Rise Up NYC, the Doctor is proving that he’s still very much the King in his own right. With a decades-long catalogue, global influence, and unmatched stage presence, Beenie Man’s crown isn’t handed—it’s earned, worn, and defended with every performance.

Big up to the artists, the fans, and New York City for letting the Caribbean flag fly high!
