Prime Minister Andrew Holness: “Mi nuh fraid a nobody”. It is going to be war!

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has issued a stern warning to what he describes as “social media warriors” spreading misinformation during Jamaica’s critical recovery from Hurricane Melissa. Holness, speaking Friday at the official opening of the new Little London Police Station in Westmoreland, said the Government will not allow falsehoods to derail national rebuilding efforts.

The previous Little London station was destroyed by fire, making the new facility a major step toward restoring community safety. But Holness used the moment to call out those he believes are intentionally trying to sow confusion and distrust online.

Mi nuh fraid a nobody,” the Prime Minister told supporters, making it clear the administration intends to fight back against orchestrated online attacks. “It is going to be war,” he warned, underscoring the Government’s readiness to confront the surge of misleading posts and politically motivated narratives.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa — one of the most devastating storms in Jamaica’s modern history — social media has exploded with memes, rumours, and commentary that officials say are undermining the national recovery. Government sources argue that many of these posts carry clear political intent, stirring division at a time when unity is essential.

Holness stressed that misinformation hampers the work being done on the ground by first responders, relief agencies, and international partners. “Jamaica is rebuilding, and we will not allow chaos to disrupt the process,” he insisted.

The administration has indicated that it will increase its communication efforts, deploy rapid-response fact-checking, and directly call out content designed to mislead the public.

As the country continues to recover, the question now is whether Jamaica’s online landscape will become a new battleground — one where truth and politics collide during one of the nation’s toughest moments.
