Oblique Seville Smokes Lyles in London!
July 18, 2025 | Jamaica Live Sports Desk
Jamaica’s Oblique Seville lit up the London Stadium today, blazing to victory in the men’s 100m with a world-class time of 9.86 seconds, ahead of a star-studded field that included American Olympic champion Noah Lyles and British sprinter Zharnel Hughes.

Running in lane four, Seville took control from the gun and never let go, keeping his composure as Lyles tried in vain to chase him down from lane five. Lyles clocked 10.00 seconds, while Hughes settled for third in 10.02 seconds. Oblique Seville delivered a stunning performance at the London Diamond League, blazing to victory in the men’s 100m, leaving American Olympic champion Noah Lyles in his dust.
“London is the place I wanted to run,” said Seville. “To get the Diamond League win here is very special to me. I was the only one to run under 10 seconds today — it’s something phenomenal heading into the world championships.”
It was a powerful performance from Seville, who has finished fourth at the last two World Championships. Today, however, he held off one of the sport’s biggest names with confidence and control. From the crack of the gun, Seville exploded out the blocks and established an early lead, never relinquishing it as Lyles struggled to catch up.
Lyles, who recently returned from an ankle tendon injury, was gracious in defeat:
“I feel great… I wanted the win but I think it was my fastest ever season opener.”
“You’re going to see Oblique out there and be like, ‘Okay, don’t let it get to your head, just go and try and chase him.’”
While Lyles entertained the 60,000-strong London crowd with his trademark showmanship, it was Seville who stole the spotlight with execution and flair.
Also in the mix was Seville’s teammate, Kishane Thompson, the fastest man in the world this year with 9.75 seconds. Though he didn’t run the individual 100m, Thompson anchored Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team to victory in 37.80 seconds, securing their spot at the World Championships in Tokyo.
“We’re grateful to get the job done,” said Thompson. “The exchanges weren’t perfect, but we got it around safely.”
With Seville peaking and Thompson already world-leading, Team Jamaica is sending a strong warning: the sprint crown might just be heading back to the island.
This win marks Seville’s first Diamond League 100m title and solidifies his status as a top contender heading into the World Championships. The Jamaican sprint factory continues to dominate the world stage, and Seville is now carrying the torch with authority.
Seville’s 9.86 was the day’s fastest time, his first-ever Diamond League 100 m win, and marks a strong return after just missing out at last year’s Olympics
Oblique Seville 9.86 s Winner

This performance not only underscores Seville’s growth since his 9.81 s dash in Paris 2024 but also sets a high bar as he builds toward the World Championships
