Kingston, Jamaica — Young leaders from across the Caribbean are gathering in Jamaica this week to take part in a major regional workshop focused on climate action, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

The Caribbean Youth Climate Council (CYCC), in partnership with Youth Action Co:Lab and Youth4Energy, is hosting the Caribbean Climate & Sustainable Energy Youth Workshop 2026 from March 4–6 at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston. The event is being held under the theme “SUSEnergy: Equity and Inclusion in a Changing Climate.”

The workshop marks the second staging of the Caribbean Youth Environment and Climate Change Conference, bringing together youth leaders, policymakers, energy practitioners, researchers, and community advocates from across the CARICOM region. The gathering aims to strengthen youth participation in shaping sustainable energy policies and investments as Caribbean nations accelerate their transition toward renewable energy and climate resilience.

Organizers say the initiative comes at a critical time for Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which continue to face increasing climate threats while working to improve energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The workshop is supported by the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), the regional institution mandated to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency investments across CARICOM. Through expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and collaborative problem-solving activities, participants are exploring key issues including renewable energy deployment, energy equity, youth leadership in climate governance, and community-driven solutions.

As part of the programme, participants will also take part in an educational field visit to the International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS) and the Electric Vehicle (EV) Lab at the University of the West Indies, Mona, where they will gain first-hand insight into regional research and innovation in environmental science, renewable energy technologies, and electric mobility.

Organizers say the goal of the workshop is not only to spark conversation but also to develop practical pathways for youth engagement in the Caribbean’s energy transition.

By convening cross-sector partners and emerging leaders, the initiative aims to position Caribbean youth as key stakeholders in building resilient, low-carbon economies across the region.

Through the workshop, the Caribbean Youth Climate Council says it remains committed to empowering the next generation of Caribbean leaders to drive innovative, inclusive, and justice-centered climate and energy action as the region confronts the realities of a changing climate.
