Social media sensation ‘Candy Wow’, remanded in custody on assault charges: Court heard she is not Jamaican

The Social media sensation known as ‘Candy Wow’, legally named Keresia Brown, found herself in handcuffs today as she faced the St Catherine Parish Court on a serious charge of assault occasioning bodily harm, stemming from a shocking incident where she unleashed her fury on a woman at her stall in Old Harbour.

The Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) is stepping in to figure out her nationality because the court heard that Brown claimed she’s not Jamaican.

According to the Jamaica Gleaner, the court noted that Ms. Brown has declared herself to be an Irish national, and it was revealed that the accused has been conducting activities under various aliases.

She has apparently asserted that she has undertaken a deed poll to formally change her name.

The Passport, Immigration & Citizenship Agency (PICA) has been commissioned to ascertain her nationality, as the court was informed that Ms. Brown has asserted her non-Jamaican status.

The court was informed that Ms. Brown has asserted her status as an Irish national and that the accused has been conducting business under various aliases.

In court today, Ms. Brown entered a plea of not guilty and informed Parish Judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that she is currently unrepresented by legal counsel.

She has been remanded to secure legal representation by May 16, when the case is scheduled to be mentioned once more. The allegations state that on April 13, the complainant was operating her stall in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, at which time she was allegedly attacked and assaulted by Brown. A report was filed, leading to her arrest and subsequent charges.
