Annotto Bay Fire Station Officially Reopens After Major Renovations

Annotto Bay, St. Mary – The Annotto Bay Fire Station has been officially reopened following extensive renovations, bringing the facility up to modern standards and significantly enhancing the working environment for firefighters in the parish.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Hon. Desmond McKenzie, presided over the reopening ceremony and highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the country’s emergency response infrastructure.

The refurbished fire station now boasts a range of upgraded amenities aimed at improving staff morale and operational efficiency. These include gender-specific dormitories with adequate accommodation, a conference room, a laundry area, recreational spaces, a gymnasium, and a backup emergency generator to ensure continuity of service during power outages or natural disasters.

Dr. the Hon. Norman Dunn, Member of Parliament in St. Mary and State Minister in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security was also presented at the opening ceremony.

Minister McKenzie noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, the government has constructed at least five brand-new fire stations across Jamaica — an achievement he described as unprecedented.

“This facility was constructed at a cost of $108 million Jamaican dollars,” McKenzie stated. “It includes comfortable dormitories, a modern gym, a dining and recreation area — all designed to give the hardworking men and women of the fire service a place to rest and recharge as they carry out their duty to protect the people of St. Mary.”

The reopening of the Annotto Bay Fire Station marks another step in the government’s broader initiative to modernize emergency services across the island.
