Mother Love charged with Communication to Promote Violence

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has charged a St. Elizabeth man after he allegedly posted a threatening video on social media warning of violence if his preferred political candidate loses the upcoming general election.

Forty-year-old Giovannie Skeen, otherwise called “Mother Love”, a clothes vendor of Marlborough district in Balaclava, St. Elizabeth, has been charged with Use of Audiovisual Communication to Promote Violence.

According to reports from the Black River Police, at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, Skeen posted a video on TikTok inciting violent reprisals in his constituency. In the recording, he allegedly declared:

  • “If we no win, we ago turn the world inna Haiti, pure big matic and rifle.”
  • “Me wi murder people fi me party.”

Law enforcement officials launched an investigation into the video, which quickly gained circulation online. On Wednesday, August 20, Skeen was apprehended during a targeted police operation in his community.
The TikToker later offered an explanation for the statement in made; however, police still proceeded to take him into custody.

He was later charged following a formal question-and-answer session with investigators. A court date is now being finalised.

The JCF has repeatedly warned citizens that threats of political violence—whether in person or online—will not be tolerated, especially in the heated atmosphere of a general election campaign.
