Yallahs, St Thomas –
Police in the St Thomas Division have made a significant discovery after seizing 510 sticks of dynamite during a targeted operation in Yallahs on Monday, July 7. The explosives were found concealed in a bag at a premises searched by lawmen around 1:00 p.m. Three men were arrested in connection with the find, but their identities are being withheld pending further investigations.

Authorities are now probing the intended use of the massive cache.
One possible theory on social media pointing to dynamite fishing, an illegal and environmentally devastating practice that has occurred in parts of Jamaica in the past, including Hellshire.
It raises the question of whether this could be linked to illegal fishing practices or other criminal activities.

The use of explosives for fishing is strictly prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1945. The law deems the use of dynamite to stun or kill fish a destructive fishing method that not only endangers marine life but also destroys coral reefs, disrupts marine ecosystems, and undermines the sustainability of the country’s fisheries.

While the police have not officially confirmed a motive, environmental advocates and marine experts are urging authorities to explore every possibility. “The sheer quantity of explosives raises serious questions, and we must be vigilant in protecting Jamaica’s marine biodiversity,” said one source familiar with marine enforcement operations. While others believe this could be link to other criminal activities.

The police have confirmed that specialized teams are continuing their investigations into the origin and intended purpose of the dynamite.

Jamaica Live will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
